从跨文化沟通视域探讨中国留学生与其外国导师的角色关系以及影响导师指导效果的文化因素。以12名在英美国家高校攻读硕博学位的中国留学生为调查对象,展开中西方导师指导模式的对比研究与分析。研究发现:"学生与导师关系边缘化"是受试留学生的主要经历。不同国籍研究生对于自己与导师关系的需求不一样。中国研究生普遍期待与自己导师建立非常密切的关系,因其对导师的依赖程度较高;而英美国家研究生则往往期待自己在与导师的关系中相对更加自主和独立。对师生关系的不同期待对留学生在他国的学习和生活会产生不同程度的影响。基于此,文章提出了相应的建议,以帮助不同国籍留学生更快更好地适应留学目的国的学习氛围和科研模式。 |

This qualitative study examined the expected relationship between expatriate Chinese graduate students and their supervisors as well as its due outcome from intercultural communication perspective. It explored and analyzed different supervision practices between Chinese and western tertiary institutions based on the survey on 12 Chinese international students in US and UK. The findings indicated that Chinese students felt their relationship with their supervisors was mostly marginalized, though they were expecting a close or intimate one, which was different from American and British students who believed they should be more self-reliant and independent in the relationship with their supervisors. Different expectations of student-supervisor relationship brought about different outcomes affecting international students' study and life in the target country. Based on the findings of the study, this paper attempts to help international students adapt to their new academic environment in the target country and to give practical advice to the universities from which Chinese students go abroad as well as to which foreign students come and further their study. |
